The patented QuietCare System was designed and tested over a twelve year period by two of the world's leading researchers in the care of older people (Professors Glascock and Kutzik of Drexel University, U.S.A.) to address the needs of carers and their loved ones. We have a Health and Social Care Board of Advisors that includes some of the leading elderly care practitioners spanning Health, Social Care, and Insurance.

I have a personal emergency response pendant. Do I need another device?
The emergency response pendant is important for when an emergency occurs. The QuietCare system provides a way to spot problems before they become emergencies.

Won't QuietCare intrude on my privacy?
The system isn't watching what you are doing. There are no cameras or microphones, or anything intrusive. The sensors only detect that there has been motion. Thus it can determine if you have got up in the morning, have safely navigated the bathroom, and are moving about in your home.

Does my older relative need a computer at home?
No, everything needed for its use is incorporated in the QuietCare System, including sensors, a receiver and a base station. The base station, which transmits the information to our secure computers, needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet (wall socket) and into an existing phone point. No special phone line or computer connection is needed.

Will the calls show up on my loved one's phone bill?
No, all calls are to our freephone number.

Does the QuietCare System detect falls?
The QuietCare System provides indications of possible falls in the bathroom (the site of most household falls). For example, if a person remains in the bathroom for more than a specified period of time (one hour) a red alert is sent to the carer or the monitoring centre advising of the possibility of a fall. The monitoring centre then institutes its response protocol.

Can my elderly parent get emergency help through the QuietCare System?
Through text messaging or phone calls carers can be alerted of potential in-home emergencies. If they do, the designated appropriate responders will be notified.

Do I need a computer to receive notification and reports?
To get the most complete picture of your loved-one's progress you will want to access their personalised website through a computer where you can note how well they've slept, if they are up and about, and if they have prepared meals regularly. However, you can also choose to receive text messages and pager alerts that will keep you abreast of any significant changes in their condition. For example, you can be notified if your parent's normal sleeping patterns were disturbed the previous night or if they visited the bathroom more than usual — important indicators of potential health changes.

How is the system installed?
The QuietCare system will be installed by specially trained professionals. Although the system is elegantly simple, it is important to position each sensor so that it can accurately detect the movements we need to determine each of the monitored activities.

Will QuietCare require a lot of changes in my home?
No. The system has been designed to be virtually unnoticeable in your home. The small motion detectors are typically attached to the walls with double-sided tape. The small receiver (about the size of a pack of cards with a small antenna) attaches to the wall with double-sided tape. The book-sized base station is mounted beside it or sits on the floor. The base station simply plugs into a wall socket and phone point. No wiring or drilling is necessary.

Can I move the motion sensors after they are put up?
The sensors and the other equipment are moveable. However, unless there has been a change in the person's living routines the sensors should not be moved.

Yes. However, your system should be reinstalled by a trained professional so it can be properly sited.

Who can get the reports and see the information about my loved ones?
The QuietCare web service is password-protected and you control who has access to the passwords and who will receive alerts. We can configure the notification system to send e-mails and other alerts to your family members or even care professionals.

Absolutely. Only you and those you designate can see the information that is gathered. In fact, we adhere to a strict privacy policy.

I have a pet dog. Will he interfere with the QuietCare monitoring?
It is doubtful if a pet will interfere with the system since the sensors are mounted at about your shoulder level. However, it is possible that pets' movements might trigger the sensors. We recommend that you speak to a QuietCare representative about the use of the system in your case.
